“HAICAI” (haiku) by ader gotardo
Six portraits of a Japanese Brazilian model, Bárbara Emy, with letters of the word “Haicai” between her lips. This work is a homage to Gastão de Magalhães’ work, titled “This is Poem”, 1975. Mr. Magalhães used the same method to write the word “Poem”. I chose the Japanese word for a traditional way to make poems, Haikai, what is translated in Brazil as “Haicai”. This project is a metaphor on artist’s creative processes in search of intercontinental influences while not physically displacing themselves.
